The hunt for a summer dress begins!

The weather is getting warmer and I crave wearing a “pretty something” around the city.

The problem is, shopping for a new summer dress with an appropriate cut and style is just so impossible.

Every Chicago woman knows that you just can’t wear a flowy, loose dress. ever. This dress would show a whole lot of body in the windy Chicago summer.

Goodbye, coverage.
Exhibit A
This dress would not stand up to a blustery day!

My shopping qualifications are a flattering cut for a summer dress, and it to be made in a durable, quality way. Much to my dismay, most dresses in style barely cover my behind, or are cut so low that there’s nothing left to the imagination. Even worse, the dresses I do find are made of cheap, polyester material or have just a loose construction.

With a limited budget and the right KonMari minimalist mindset, I found a few pieces that are made with a mature cut that’s still fun and flattering.

Gianna Jacquard Fit and Flare Dress
This dress falls just far enough down my leg to satisfy my wish for dresses that look right on a twenty-something, instead of the cheap high cuts of younger looking dresses.Donna Morgan, $158.

I can never escape the short dresses! This one seems to be an exception to the rule though. I love the fringe trend, the muted colored stripes, and the not too low v neck cut. Anthropologie, $148
A classic white dress, it can be worn to the office or dinner out. Anthropologie, $158

I bought this dress for myself yesterday during Nordstrom Rack’s extra 25% off sale-

Fingers crossed that that hem falls just long enough! Perfect to wear on a museum date or a summer concert.
Trina Turk, $35
Have you had any luck finding a flattering summer go-to dress?
