After a two year hiatus from social media, I reluctantly recreated my Facebook page once I became engaged to be married. Facebook is an easy tool to reconnect with former mom friends, collegian ghosts, and moved-away mentors and teachers who wished me well as I embarked on the engagement season and subsequent merging of two lives.
One aspect of Facebook I have embraced in 2016 is the Facebook feed as a reminder of positive influences in my life. I am reclaiming the Facebook feed, not as an annoyance, filled with unwelcomed opinions, but instead as a kind of inspiration feed. By accepting friendship connections from those who I really care for, and following celebrated female public faces, I use the once-hated feed as a reminder of the person I wish to be.
Kristin Gillibrand, a fierce defender of women’s rights and democratic ideals.
Allison Ball, one of the few women in Kentucky state government- serving as state treasurer.
It’s a great way to keep me up to date about politics I care about, or current happenings in my city.
Do you have any popular female mentors you follow on social media?
Any creative ways you use Facebook for other than connecting with old friends?
