I have found some of my favorite furniture pieces through various thrifting adventures, including on Craiglist. Before you judge me with a weary eye for meeting up with strangers over the internet, I will tell you what to look out for to keep the thrifting safe!
What started as a necessity in college has become a way of finding treasures in Chicago. Top executives moving out of state, families relocating, or college students moving back home have offered me free and almost free furniture items that shape the feel of my home.
This navy blue and white Moroccan patterned rug is my new favorite find. I spotted it on Craigslist for $60 in the Andersonville nighborhood, and rushed over after work to snag it. The owner was a fabulous business guy that lived here for a year, but needed to give away all his stuff before moving to Texas the very next day.
Of course I caution you to be careful about the quality of the items you find. Pay attention to the state of the home when you go to pick it up, and I recommended cleaning it thoroughly when you get home.
With that necessary disclaimer aside, I’ll introduce you to one of my home decor secrets: Used does not necessarily mean bad. I give that object a new life, and it gives my home a much needed makeover!
